Big chance for a wet national day in the west and north – news Vestland

Hope for sun, but an umbrella should be part of plan B when it comes to planning the May 17 celebrations in Western Norway and parts of northern Norway. – Around 17 May, the likelihood of precipitation is greatest in Western Norway, says meteorologist Magnus Ovhed. Wet most of southern Norway With a good week to go until National Day, there is still uncertainty associated with the weather forecasts. In the coming week, there will be a good deal of mild air covering most of the country, but at the border of the cold air there may be some precipitation. Where the low pressure is located affects the weather. In the run-up to National Day, there are quite small margins for where these low pressures end up, explains Ovhed. As of now, there is more than a 50 percent chance that it will rain in Western Norway. Rainfall is also likely from northern parts of Nordland and to Western Finnmark. The danger of precipitation also applies to Southern Norway, the meteorologist says. The map shows the possibility of rain. – A dark blue area most likely means rain (or snow in Svalbard), where it is light blue the chance of lingering weather is greatest, says the Meteorological Institute. It is in Austlandet, Trøndelag, Finnmarksvidda and Aust-Finnmark that there is the greatest chance of “a fairly dry 17 May”. – If you’re lucky, it can be sunny, says Ovhed. In Austlandet there is a certain chance of precipitation, but the chance is well below 50 per cent. The same applies to Trøndelag. The temperature in Austlandet seems to be around 15–20 degrees. In the west, temperatures can be 12–15 degrees and in the north around ten degrees. Austlandet has a good chance of “a fairly dry 17 May”. Here, sun and blue skies in Oslo on 17 May last year. Experience shows that the citizens of Bergen show up to celebrate regardless of the weather, but Lycke says they hope to have a few good hours during the national day. – I tend to put off looking at the weather reports so much. We are prepared for all variants. Last year there was glorious sunshine and a record attendance at the May 17 celebration in Sunnfjord, says leader of the May 17 committee and deputy mayor Anne Lilleaasen. Several events in Førde take place indoors, but outside at the schools around the municipality, much takes place outside. – We hope the weather forecast will turn around, and that everyone will have a good day regardless, says Lilleaasen. The May 17 committee in Sunnfjord would like to have a repeat of last year’s national day weather, but for now it looks like there will be precipitation in the west. These forecasts can change from one day to the next, says Ovhed. So you don’t need to start planning according to the weather quite yet, but keep the possibilities open, the meteorologist urges. – You just have to follow along and hope for the best.
