Bergen student sentenced for art project against fishing company Samherji – news Vestland

The Icelandic art student Oddur Eysteinn Friðriksson in Bergen has been sentenced in The High Court of Justice in London, writes BT. After the Icelandic fishing company Samherji was accused of bribing officials in Namibia to obtain lucrative fishing quotas, Friðriksson created the art project “We’re sorry”. This was a fake website and a fake press release to 100 media in 20 countries, where it appeared as if the company was apologizing. Samherji – one of Europe’s largest fisheries and fish processing companies – sued the student with the pseudonym Odee Fridriksson. The “We’re Sorry” work was also shown at the Reykjavik Art Museum – as part of the graduation exhibition of the students at the Iceland University of the Arts. Friðriksson has nevertheless not been sentenced to a financial penalty. For now, the judge has not made a decision on whether the art material must be deleted.
