14 August 2022 at 18:05 Andreas Leknessund won the Arctic Race of Norway Andreas Leknessund won the final stage of the Arctic Race of Norway. The Tromsø rider also collected enough bonus seconds to win the race overall. Eight seconds separated the Canadian Hugo Houle. Leknessund was in a three-man break with French Fabien Grellier and Italian Alessandro Verre. They had run away from the main field with around 100 kilometers left in the stage. It was the 23-year-old’s second pro victory. He also won a stage in Switzerland around earlier. It is the first Norwegian victory in the Arctic Race of Norway since Thor Hushovd won in 2013. At the time, Leknessund was a modest teenager who followed the race at home in Tromsø. – After Saturday I felt that my legs were bad. Gradually, my legs got better, and with good help from my teammates I got free from the field. The aim was then to get a lap alone in Trondheim as a TV break. I thought it wouldn’t last all the way, but I enjoyed the round with all the spectators present, said Leknessund to TV 2. (NTB)
