– It is very dry. From Saturday, large parts of Agder will be colored dark red in relation to the index. That’s what fire chief in the Southern Fire Service, Knut Berg Berntsen, says. From Friday, a total ban on the use of open fire will be introduced in outdoor and indoor areas throughout Agder. Own house land and cultivated land are considered infield. Berntsen says the ban must be taken seriously. – Consequences are fines and imprisonment. It is connected with criminal law to break this ban, says the fire chief. Stay as far as the eye can see It’s been a long time since we’ve had significant rain in the county. Now it is starting to get seriously dry in many places. According to the long-term forecast from the Meteorological Institute, there is also no indication that rainfall will reach Southern Norway anytime soon. In the period from 15 April to 15 September, it is forbidden to make fires in or near forests and other open fields. It has nevertheless been permitted to put out a fire if it is judged that a fire cannot occur. Now the public is deprived of the opportunity to assess this for themselves. A lot of sun and rising temperatures are expected. Combined with high winds, this increases the risk of forest fires. – Now we do not have a long-term forecast so far, but what we see now is that there will be no precipitation in the long-term forecast available as of now. The fire service’s ban will therefore apply until the end of June. It will still be permitted to use barbecues on prepared garden areas, verandas and schoolyards. The additional forest fire helicopter at Kristiansand Airport Kjevik is also extending its readiness until 12 June, the Directorate for Safety and Emergency Preparedness informs.
