An acute lack of snow has forced the Swedish national cross-country team to postpone the training camp in Sweden’s Vålådalen. At the same time, there is snow in Idre – a little further south in Sweden. As many as seven Norwegian national teams are going on right now, and very happily so. – What they have achieved here this year is extremely good. I have rarely been in a place with better conditions and length on the trail, says cross-country veteran Didrik Tønseth to news. He is supported by national team manager Ulf Morten Aune: – Idre is the best in Europe at storing and driving out snow. There is a snow guarantee, in addition to reasonably good accommodation options. Idre has collected over 2,000 cubic meters of snow since last winter. This has resulted in a trail of seven kilometres, which is certainly not usual fare for the runners in early November. – The track length allows us to do what we need to do, without it costing too much psychologically. It costs a bit to walk a round of two to three kilometers for five hours a day, but here it’s very good, says Tønseth. SATISFIED: Didrik Tønseth and the rest of the national cross-country team have nothing to complain about in Swedish Idre. Photo: NTB And now Tønseth and co. immediately visited by a former national team runner. – I just spoke to Emil Iversen and his team, who are in Vålådalen, and they are going here now. There it had almost become spring again and not fit to go any further, says Tønseth. – Badly done While the Norwegian athletes rejoice over the Swedish snow, the mood is not as good at “sweet brother”. REACTS: The Swedish cross-country stars do not get quite the same training conditions as Norway at the moment. Photo: Terje Pedersen / NTB – It’s badly done, but we can only congratulate Norway. Swedish Edvin Anger tells Expressen. He is one of those who have had to change their plans – a good three weeks before the season premiere. The same applies to national team colleague Calle Halfvarsson. He comes up with a joking proposal. – Maybe you should redraw the border and send Idre over to Norway, he says to Expressen. BAD CONDITIONS: The Swedes went here to train. Photo: SVT Million agreement The Ski Association has an agreement with Idre which means that 70 Norwegian athletes will receive free accommodation, food and piste fees. As far as news knows, this has a value of several million kroner. – It is a good agreement we have with the Norwegian Skiing Association. We want to have the best athletes in place here, and we are constantly trying to develop ourselves. We do that when we collaborate with the best, says Tommy Halvarsson, marketing and communications manager at Idre. He says that this is one of Idre’s biggest contracts. – We are really proud that Norway likes us. It is the best national team in the world. They can help us take the next step, says Halvarsson. ORGANIZER: Tommy Halvarsson, marketing and communications manager in Idre, is satisfied with the agreement they have with the Ski Association. Photo: Morten Stenberg / news The Swedish national team has an agreement with Vålådalen and Bruksvallarna, where they have free accommodation. – So it is also a financial question, says the Swedish national team manager Anders Byström. Northug: – Deep sympathy – I understand that it’s hard to go for sorghum in Vålådalen, when it’s so nice here in Idre. I have deep sympathy, says Even Northug. It is clear that he also enjoyed himself in Idre. – We welcome Idre. You saw how close it was to the border, so I think everyone here knows a little bit of Norwegian during the day, he replies to Halfvarsson’s statement. HAPPY: Even Northug is satisfied with the conditions in Idre. Photo: Beate Oma Dahle / NTB Norway has made an active choice when they say “sweet brother”. They have wrecked places such as Beitostølen, Lillehammer, Sjusjøen and Trysil in favor of Swedish land. – It’s nice to go where the conditions are best. This is where the longest track is currently, so we go where we can train with the best possible quality. It is the right priority. – Is there anything else to do here other than eat, ski and sleep here? – No, but it is very important to have gatherings at such places before the start of the season. It’s a bit like Muonio in Finland where we were last year. It is not possible to do anything other than exercise, eat, sleep or be in the sauna. That’s what we do here. The women’s national team is also in place across the border. Lotta Udnes Weng argues that there are good skiers and nice slopes there. She still believes that the Swedes are also welcome. – It was probably a bit of an exaggeration on the part of the Swedes. They could also be here. It’s not like they have an entry ban here, says Udnes Weng.
