There has been a lot of weather and wind during Christmas in large parts of the country. But the residents of southern Norway can be happy that things turn around on New Year’s Eve. – In Eastern Norway, the weather will be fine throughout the day, with calm wind conditions and fine weather, says meteorologist Dina Stabell at the Meteorological Institute. The westerners also get less wind during the day. – But here there will be scattered rain and snow showers tonight. Wind, showers and thunder By far the most unfortunate are the inhabitants of Møre and Romsdal, Trøndelag and Northern Norway. – Here there will be wind and showers. The exception is the coast of Finnmark, which gets lingering weather during the evening. Nordland and Troms are the areas that get the most wind. In Møre and Romsdal and Trøndelag there is also a risk of thunder. In Eastern Norway, there is the best chance of seeing the fireworks. It is to be transported out into the fjord on a barge, and the tug needs certain conditions to be able to leave the quay. – The deadline for making the decision is around 11 p.m., says Claus Ivar Krohn, general manager of Krohn Pyroteknikk. HAS FAITH: – We live in Western Norway, and are used to this weather, says Claus Ivar Krohn, who is convinced that the rockets will go off at midnight. Photo: Roar Strøm / news Can’t shoot from the mountain this year The weather has led to changes in several places. In Tromsø, the launching of the traditional mountain fireworks is postponed due to strong gusts of wind. – We cannot shoot from the mountain because there is too much wind. We simply cannot recover, says pyrotechnician Erlend Halsteinsen. In Kristiansund, the New Year’s fireworks, which were scheduled to be lit at 5 p.m., have been postponed until New Year’s Day. The same is true of the fun train, reports the municipality. Still optimistic In Molde, fireworks worth NOK 350,000 will be connected and made ready for launch during the afternoon. – But what happens if the conditions get too bad then? – Then we postpone until tomorrow, says Krohn. Although the weather forecast is not so good, he is still optimistic. – The weather forecasts change all the time. I have been doing this for 20 years, and am used to storms and bad weather. I have shot from a barge with 15 m/s wind and 20 in the casts before, and it has gone well. It is the conditions on the lake that decide, says Krohn. Should things go wrong, he has already approved the launch of the fireworks tomorrow evening at 8pm. – But do you think anyone will watch then, the day after New Year’s Eve? – Sure, then people have free time. It will be fine.
