According to KSAT, there are sources in the police who report more than 40 dead, and another 16 people who have been transported to hospital. These patients should have varying health conditions. There is a large number of emergency services on site, with ambulances going in shuttle traffic to hospitals. It is not yet known who these people are. But there have been several cases where human traffickers transport refugees and migrants in cargo holds where there is not enough air, and where people are thus suffocated. The train is found in a sparsely populated area southwest of San Antonio.
