2 December 2023 at 22:01 Hovland played with Tiger Woods and caught him Viktor Hovland played with Tiger Woods himself in the 3rd round of the World Challenge and was one stroke better than him in the round. Hovland’s round of 70 saw him catch up with Woods so they are in joint 16th place among the 20 participants before the final round on Sunday. Both are on par overall. The Norwegian came to the Bahamas hoping to take his third straight victory in Tiger Woods’ own tournament, but the chance was gone after rounds of 73 on both Thursday and Friday. Hovland was two strokes over par and eleven behind the leading duo, but he was allowed to play the third round together with Woods. The American legend started with bogeys on the first two holes, while Hovland recorded birdies on the 3rd and 5th holes and was two under par. Woods didn’t want to get carried away, and within a half-played round he had sunk four birdie putts so that he himself was two under par. When Hovland had to endure a bogey on the 9th hole, he was suddenly behind Woods not only in the summary, but also for the day. Woods bogeyed the 11th hole and they were tied again. Both birdied the 14th hole, but Hovland’s birdie on the next hole was decisive for the mini-duel on Saturday’s round. Both missed par putts on the 18th hole and had to endure a bogey there. (© NTB)
