The book has been staged by Det Norske Teatret and developed as radio play by news, but it is the first time that the story has been made into an opera. The role of Hedvig is played by the Norwegian soprano Kine Sandtrø from Stjørdal. Magnus Johansson, who is responsible for the music and libretto, says about “Snøsøsteren”: – It is a beautiful and sad book that tells about some of the most difficult things a family can experience in a real and unadorned way. A type of book I can miss in contemporary Swedish children’s literature. “Snösystern” premieres on 3 December, and is part of Malmö Opera’s educational project Det stora Operaäventyret, which includes classroom visits and follow-up. Thousands of pupils from all over Scania take part in the project.
