24 May 2023 at 12:44 Asking people to avoid contact with “Hvaldimir” The white whale known as “Hvaldimir” is now staying in the inner Oslofjord. The Directorate of Fisheries is now urging people to avoid contact with the beluga. – We especially encourage people in boats to keep a good distance to avoid the whale being injured or, in the worst case, killed by boat traffic, says fisheries director Frank Bakke-Jensen in a press release. The risk that the whale may be injured due to human contact has become significantly greater as a result of it having arrived in a densely populated area. “Hvaldimir” was first seen in Måsøy municipality in April 2019 and has since been traveling along the Norwegian coast. The Directorate of Fisheries will monitor the whale’s movements and hope it will turn around when it reaches the end of the Oslofjord. – The Directorate of Fisheries’ Maritime Service will occasionally be in the area in connection with other tasks and can be contacted if necessary, says fisheries director Frank Bakke-Jensen.
