And it was a Norwegian victory, after Erik Valnes moved at the top of the last hill and crossed the finish line in solitary majesty. – It was no surprise. The body felt good, and I am happy now, says Valnes to the organiser. Mattis Stenshagen finished second, just ahead of Finland’s only hope in the final, Lauri Vuorinen. Even Northug, Gjøran Tefre and Harald Østberg Amundsen took the remaining places in the final. Pål Golberg went out in the semi-finals after he was knocked out by two Finns. The Finnish national opening continues with 10 km classic and free on Saturday and Sunday, before news broadcasts the national cross-country opening at Beitostølen next weekend. The following weekend it is back to Finland, for the World Cup opening in Ruka.
