26 November 2022 at 12:43 Arild Hermstad elected as new MDG leader Arild Hermstad was on Saturday elected as the new leader of the Green Party during the party’s national meeting. He succeeds Une Bastholm, who surprisingly resigned during the Arendal week in August. Hermstad received 102 votes, while opposing candidate Kristoffer Robin Haug received 101 votes. He was nominated in advance by the party’s election committee. – Thank you very much for your trust. It’s absolutely fantastic. And many congratulations to Kristoffer, for that election campaign. You have run a fantastic election campaign, says Hermstad to the national meeting, and gives opposing candidate Haug a hug on stage. In their election speeches, both Hermstad and Haug talked about how they want the MDG to stand out in a wider range of political issues than the environmental party is doing at the moment. Lan Marie Berg was elected by acclamation as deputy chairperson, and thus takes over for Hermstad. Berg was appointed by the election committee in advance, and had no opposing candidates.
