The mediation between SAS and the pilots started up again at 08 on Monday morning. The dealers have four hours before the deadline expires at 12. Will hit thousands daily There are a total of around 900 pilots, from Norway, Sweden and Denmark, who are ready to strike. In Norway, the Norwegian Pilots’ Association has provided space for 254 pilots, while Parat has delivered for 148. A major strike among SAS pilots will affect around 250 departures and 45,000 passengers daily, according to the news agency TT. There were long queues at Oslo Airport on Friday. Weekday. – It is a difficult situation to be in, Alexander Wasland in the Norwegian Pilots’ Association has previously stated to news. He says that the pilots wanted a good collaboration with SAS. SAS’s communications director, Karin Nyman, has not wanted to speculate on how long a strike SAS will be able to handle, but says that summer is the most important period for the company. Approaching the deadline At 22 o’clock on Sunday, it became clear that the pilot associations ended the mediation for the evening. – We think it is appropriate to get some sleep and rest before we enter the crucial phase, said Roger Klokset, leader of the Norwegian SAS pilots’ association (NSF). SAS chief negotiator Marianne Hærnes is upset that the pilot associations would not negotiate overnight until Monday. – I’m very, very surprised. For we had indicated that we were willing to sit through the night. Every hour counts. So it was disappointing, simply, says Hærnes on his way into the negotiating rooms on Monday. It is too stupid to just leave the premises and send 900 pilots on strike because a deadline has expired. Hærnes says that they will try to use the last hours well. However, she is not in favor of a further postponement of the deadline. – It takes a lot for us to choose to postpone once more. There must be a clarification, for the sake of our passengers. – There is no point in postponing and postponing if you are far apart. Then it is probably better to just tear off the patch. This is the conflict SAS and their pilots do not disagree on pay. The core of the conflict is the creation of two staffing companies. During the pandemic, around 560 pilots lost their jobs. At the same time, SAS established two subsidiaries. They were named SAS Link and SAS Connect. These will take over aircraft and be filled with new pilots. The SAS pilots who were laid off during the pandemic will have their jobs back. They say SAS is trying to circumvent its obligations to bring the dismissed pilots back. SAS rejects this. They believe the company relates to all agreements entered into. According to the pilot association, the pilots have agreed to savings measures that amount to 25 percent savings. In return, they will have an assurance that it is their members who get the new jobs that will be filled in SAS Link and SAS Connect. Four mediation deadlines On Saturday, a new mediation deadline was set for the fourth time. – We actually come with the same message as we did last time. We have chosen to postpone once more, until Monday at 12 o’clock, said SAS negotiator Marianne Hærnes when she met the press. SAS negotiator: – Must simply have some sleep On Saturday, the parties took a break, but started up again with the negotiations on Sunday. A new mediation deadline was set for Saturday 2 July at 11 am, but as is well known, this mediation deadline was also postponed until Monday 4 July at 12 noon.
