Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively had some witty chemistry and created a fine entertaining crime comedy in “A Simple Favor” from 2018. A book -based movie where manipulation, sex, fraud and killings created moody knifeing between two friends with quite different personalities. Director Paul Feig repeats his own recipe with “Another Simple Favor”. In good sequelism, the concept here is moved here to a holiday trip, more specifically a wedding in Italy. Unfortunately, the movie becomes uneven both as Crimea and comedy. Postcard idyll: Stephanie (Anna Kendrick) and Emily (Blake Lively) are on their way to weddings on the Italian island of Capri. Photo: © 2025 Amazon Content Services LLC Like “A Simple Favor”, it is lying here in the tone changes between Crimea, silly fool and mild satire. And where the original had some festive surprises, the sequel has only audience -friendly repetitions. Blake Lively hits so much Good Emily Nelson (Blake Lively) has spent five years in prison. Girlfriend Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) has spent that time writing a book about what happened to the two in the previous movie. COOL main role: Blake Lively plays so well in the span between scams, raises and good friends. Photo: Lorenzo last but then Emily suddenly lets out of prison. She crashes Stephanie’s book launch and threatens lawsuit unless the newly baked author joins Italy. Emily is going to get married, and thus it is the setting for new services, new deaths and plenty of mafia developments. “Another Simple Favor” is a movie that is better at festive single scenes than on a holistic drive. Blake Lively hits so well in a starring role. Here there are several scenes where she – in beautiful costumes and with juicy overalls – she gets to play in the span between scams, revenge and good girlfriend. Anna Kendrick doesn’t get as much fun to play in the role of involuntary amateur detective, but she gives the film a cheerful pull of foolish crime parody. Amateur Detective: Anna Kendrick is fun, but I would like to see her investigative character more to play. Photo: Lorenzo Sisti I would like to see that the parody had had tight edges and that the comedy had gone on more. I would also like to see that the relationship between the main characters had received more substance. The changing girlfriend dynamics was noticeably more interesting and engaging in the original film. A bit away from the genre’s best as streaming films, “Another Simple Favor” has qualities that will entertain the couch hook. Here there are big stars, smell -wide luxury prospects, juicy family secrets and a smooth sprinkle of lightly -bin -legged enthusiasm. In addition, festive Allison Janay (“I, Tonya” and “Mom”) is always on the team as a mysterious wedding guest. Aunt for trouble: Allison Janney plays Emily’s Aunt Linda Mclanden. A festive character that can reveal several family secrets. Photo: Lorenzo Lasti However, this is experienced as a movie that does nothing more than it must, and it gets no more than medium fun out of all its attractions. Big successes such as “Knife Out” and “Only Murderers in the Building” have shown how catchy it can be when movies and series dare to stretch the knit and take the play completely as a comedy, crime and pointed parody. “Another Simple Favor” tries to do a little bit of everything, but does not have the script, originality or sharpness to stand out among the best of the genre.
