Another report of concern about heart surgery at Oslo University Hospital and Ullevål – news Oslo and Viken – Local news, TV and radio

The board of trustees for the senior doctors at Oslo University Hospital has sent a report of concern to the State Administrator, in connection with the closure of the cardiac surgery department at Ullevål Hospital. It is the third report of concern that has been sent about the department since February this year. This week, all planned heart surgery will be moved from Ullevål to Rikshospitalet. – The problem is that there is no capacity to take away the heart surgery business that has been at Ullevål. We are concerned that the waiting lists are increasing, that the waiting time is increasing and that this will threaten patient safety. That’s what Erik Høiskar, trustee for the superiors at OUS, says. Less capacity He believes the capacity will be halved, and says they are worried that the competence will be weakened at Ullevål hospital. It can also go beyond the emergency functions. – These are seriously ill patients, and when the capacity decreases and competence is not the hallmark, it can affect life and health, says Høiskar. Photo: Jenny Dahl Bakken I think the situation is getting worse The two previous reports of concern were only sent internally to the management at OUS. – Those concerns were not answered. The situation is actually worse, because they are now carrying out a move without having a good plan, says Høiskar. This time the report of concern has been forwarded to the state administrator. – We must take responsibility for finding a solution that preserves the capacity and emergency function at the hospital. This must be done by spending time assessing whether it is possible to move heart surgery to the National Hospital, he says. In the meantime, he believes the department should be established again at Ullevål Hospital. Høiskar hopes the State Administrator will now ask OUS and Helse Sør-Aust to ensure that patient safety is safeguarded. The report of concern has also been sent to the management at OUS. It will be recorded with them on Tuesday this week.
