Another accident on the bypass in Valdres – news Innlandet – Local news, TV and radio

The wagon train went completely around and is lying on the roof after the exit on county road 2510 in Valdres this morning. – Right now the police are having a dialogue and a meeting with the road service to assess whether we should continue to have heavy transport there, says operations manager at the police in Innlandet, Sidsel Svarstad. After the Tveit bridge on the E16 was closed and the county road became a bypass, a bus and two wagon trains drove out and overturned there. Municipal manager for education in Vang municipality, Marta Bjørnøy Lalim is upset. The bypass road is also a school road. UNSUSTAINABLE: Municipal manager Marta Bjørnøy Lalim believes the closure of the Tveit bridge makes the children’s school route dangerous. Photo: Private – The most precious thing we have in Vang municipality is children and young people and this is their everyday life. Now it is completely unacceptable and unsustainable, says Lalim. The road shoulder gives way Large wagon trains, lorries and buses have to take detours in several places after the Norwegian Road Administration closed 14 bridges at short notice due to the bridge collapse at Tretten in Gudbrandsdalen. They want to find the cause of the collapse before reopening the other bridges. But many of the bypass roads are far from designed for such traffic. The driver of the train that overturned in Valdres on Friday was able to crawl out of the car unharmed. – A lorry loaded with cement or concrete has run off the road and is on the roof. It is such a condition on that road that the road shoulder gives way when the heavy transport drives there, says the operations manager at the police in Innlandet, Sidsel Svarstad. She says the road is not good enough for such large vehicles. On Wednesday this week, first a bus from the Valdresekspressen drove off the road on the same stretch and then a tanker. Tveit bridge on the E16 is closed and the detour is via county road 2510. It is on the stretch of Liagardsvegen that several heavy vehicles have pulled out. Demands action The municipal manager in Vang municipality demands that the road authorities find a solution. She points out that the school children both walk along the bypass and wait for the bus there. Today, the school buses arrived shortly after the large wagon train overturned. – It is a very dangerous situation, says Marta Bjørnøy Lalim. She believes the bridge on the E16 must be reopened. – They must find a solution that allows Tveit bridge to open again, because this is not sustainable for the children, says Marta Bjørnøy Lalim. Crisis meeting After the exit on Friday morning, the police discussed the situation with the Norwegian Road Administration and other actors. Now the police report that the bypass will not be opened for heavy transport again. “After the emergency services have finished working at the accident site, it will be opened to small vehicles, while heavy transport will have to find other roads,” the police wrote on Twitter. Local traffic such as school buses, animal transport and milk trucks are still allowed to drive there. Alternative routes for heavy traffic are national road 52 and county road 51, reports Vegtrafikksentralen öst.
