Andreas (19) questions which fundraising campaigns people support

Oliver Bergset recently cycled from Oslo to Paris to raise money for Mental Health Youth. At the same time, a fundraising campaign was underway to save the dog that was stuck on a mountain ledge at Hovden. – I saw that it had almost received half a million overnight. I almost got a bit of a shock, and thought “is this really what we’re focusing on”, says Andreas Odd Berge. By this time, Oliver had collected over NOK 150,000. Andreas Odd Berge believes that both the media and people in general could be more aware of what they focus on. Photo: Gisle Jørgensen / news The dog at Hovden was eventually rescued by two private individuals, and the money that came in via the fundraising campaign was repaid to the donors. The reason for that was that they could not use a helicopter, which the money was supposed to go towards. But the commitment around Spleisen was great. In fact, so large that the homepage of Spleis.no almost crashed at one point. SSpleis: Hello again. We have reviewed the case on the subject now and decided that the right thing to do in this case is to refund the splice in its entirety to the donors, as the original purpose of the splice can no longer be carried out. We would also like to applaud you for having carried out a very successful spleis, which at one point had such a great commitment that it almost crashed our site for a small moment (…) Was something that was written in the message Spleis sent to the person who had created the fundraiser. Soon after, a Spleis was created for the two who went up and rescued the dog. In the end, this received NOK 380,856. Closer relationship with animals Andreas says that he became sad when he saw the contrast between the Splices, and that he felt a need to tell more people. “What if every other day one young person who has his whole life ahead of him is placed on the snow shovel where the dog was? One young person who COULD get help, one young person who NEEDS help, but the support to help is not there.” Was some of what he wrote in the post he posted on Facebook, pointing out that on average one person commits suicide every second day in Norway. Andreas says that he has almost exclusively received positive feedback on the post. Photo: Gisle Jørgensen / news The post was shared over a thousand times in a short time. – You shouldn’t underestimate a dog’s life, but there are so many other Splices out there who have a more important meaning. What do you think is the reason why the fundraiser for the dog brought in so much? – Many people have animals and a relationship with dogs. But they may not have the same relationship with suicide, refugees or other issues. They know about it, but not as close, answers Andreas. Took off after the post Oliver from Hustadvika municipality, who cycled from Oslo to Paris, says that his Spleis action took off after Andreas’s Facebook post. Oliver Bergset says that his collection took off after Andreas’s post, and that around NOK 250,000 had come in the following day. Photo: Private – It is limited how well it can go when you share a Spleis on TikTok and Instagram, because there are mainly very young people who may not have quite as much range as the older people on Facebook, says Oliver . – It helped like hell. I should be grateful to whoever shared that post, he adds. Oliver finally received NOK 543,630 from the collection for Mental Health Youth. – Awakens a need for care Kamilla Knutsen Steinnes has written a master’s thesis on why people love cute animals and animal videos. Kamilla Knutsen Steinnes says that animals are some of the most popular content on the internet. Photo: Sonja Balci / OsloMet – Animals are content that very easily captures our attention. My master’s thesis shows that they arouse very positive feelings in us, she says. She compares cute animals to babies, and explains that they awaken a need for care in people. – We see that cute animals, among other things, activate the reward center in the brain, but also places that relate to empathy and community, she says, and adds that there may be a reason why people want to help animals by donating. – Trist Andreas emphasizes that it is great that Hovden was saved, but says that he hopes that people will become more aware of the collection campaigns that exist. – The men at Hovden should of course be given credit for what they have done, but it seems that they have enough money to get ahead, but then you have all the people who are struggling in Norway. – This is my opinion, but I think it is sad that the media focuses on issues that are “clickable”, and that it is blown up in social media. There are so many other things that need focus on, such as mental health, he concludes.
