amfAR Raises $17 Million with Duran Duran, Adam Lambert, and Kevin Spacey

At the  78th Cannes Film Festival , the  amfAR Gala  stood out as a pinnacle of glamour and philanthropy. Unlike previous years, which boasted extravagant drone shows and lively performances from artists like Elton John and Elvis Presley, this year’s event focused on charity and high fashion. The  31st amfAR Gala , held at the renowned  Hotel Du Cap-Eden-Roc , garnered  over $17 million  through an exclusive auction of art pieces and experiences. The star-studded night featured unforgettable performances by  Ciara ,  Adam Lambert , and  Duran Duran , who closed the evening with their hits “ Notorious ” and “ View to a Kill .”

While the auction may have extended beyond four hours, the  spectacle  of the evening compensated for the waiting time. High-caliber performances by Lambert and the authentic drumming by  Queen’s Roger Taylor  captivated the audience, making the experience unforgettable. Hosting the event was  Oscar nominee Taraji P. Henson , setting the tone for an impactful evening.

 Spike Lee , the Oscar-winning director known for his poignant storytelling, emphasized the significance of amfAR’S mission amidst current social challenges. He noted, “It’s a great cause, and with public funding cuts, it’s going to lead to  death . People are going to die. I was asked to be a part of this, and I said ‘Yes’ right away, there was no hesitation.” His presence and words echo the urgent need for continued support in the fight against AIDS.

Another notable presence at the gala was  Michelle Rodriguez , star of the  Fast & Furious  franchise and a passionate amfAR advocate. Dressed in a stunning gown by  Elie Saab , she articulated her reasons for supporting the organization: “I’ve been researching charities for the last 15 years, and all of the charities I’ve supported, amfAR has the most results.” Her remarks highlighted the organization’s significant contributions to HIV/AIDS research, emphasizing their efficiency and effectiveness in fund allocation.

The exceptional fashion on display was a noteworthy highlight of the evening, with models showcasing couture that dazzled the crowd.  Sky Hankey ’s entrance in a flowing  Giambattista Valli  creation captured the attention of all guests, leading to a breathtaking start of the gala. The atmosphere was further electrified by a  Bond Girl fashion show , designed by  Carine Roitfeld  and featuring tuxedos from  Dsquared2  and  GCDS . The array of stunning outfits drew inspiration from iconic films, weaving a narrative through fashion that resonated with the audience.

The auction items were as extravagant as expected, with luxurious experiences available to donors. Highlights included a  Fast X  car selling for  €475K , a walk-on role in a Spike Lee movie for  €400K , and a private getaway to  Miavana Private Island  in Madagascar. Each item, whether a piece of art or an incredible experience, contributed to the night’s success in raising funds for a vital cause.

Among the prominent figures in attendance were  Kevin Spacey  and  James Franco , both participating in the auction. Noteworthy guests included  Adrien Brody  and  Colman Domingo , adding to the star-studded atmosphere of the evening. Their collective presence underscored the shared commitment from the entertainment industry to combat the AIDS epidemic through support and fundraising.
