Amalie Iuel reveals hurdle chaos before the start of the 400 meter hurdles – Olympics Paris 2024

– People are merciless. After all, we play an individual sport, and then you often think of yourself first. There aren’t enough hedges for everyone, so it can quickly become a bit of a battle, says Amalie Iuel to news. Iuel ran in the first of the five trial heats, finishing third with a time of 54.82. With that, she improved the year’s best, and is ready for the semi-finals of the Olympics in Paris on Tuesday evening. But had it not been for coach Leif Olav Alnes’ routine, the story of the Olympic comeback could have been different. – No, people stood and left, and people stole from each other. So it was good that we had Leif in the warm-up today, that is. Because while the other athletes were fighting over the hurdles, Alnes brought his own home-carved hurdles to the Olympic arena. – We used to call him a bit hysterical and paranoid, because it usually goes well. Leif brought his own hedges, and just today they came in handy, says Iuel. It’s not Leif’s first Olympics or first championship, so he’s used to it, says Iuel. – There was a bit of a bad atmosphere there, but we always use to bring our own. It was actually a good relationship. I love these situations, says Alnes to news. DUO: Leif Olav Alnes is coach for Amalie Iuel. Photo: NTB The coach says that he started bringing home-made fences already at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. Alnes is the coach for both Iuel and Karsten Warholm. – Then we spent the last night before we left and raced. We had both 91-hedges and 76-hedges. So both for Karsten and her. At one point they had to heat up at the same time, and then you had to be able to just turn the hedge and use it. It must be easy when you travel, says Alnes to news. Alnes says that the hedges consist of electrician’s pipes and legs. In addition, there is styrofoam across, cut off, he explains. But he will not reveal where he bought the equipment. – I’m not allowed to say that on TV, because then it becomes advertising, he says, laughing. Disappointed Kloster: – No fun It didn’t go so well for Line Kloster during Sunday’s attempt. She was unable to advance with a time of 56.57 in the fifth trial heat. – It wasn’t particularly good. I am very unsure how I opened, says Kloster to news. – Christina Vukicevic says you opened very offensively? – Uh, yes. Then I got out. I destroy the eighth hedge again, and become uncertain. I run between the eighth and ninth hurdles with a hesitant attitude, ruining the chances there. So the rest I just jog in, she says and continues: – No. It’s no fun. Kloster gets another chance in the collection heat on Monday. There was less pressure when she warmed up as Iuel’s warm-up overlapped with the 110m hurdles. Klosters did not. She also brought her own hedges for the warm-up. – Amalie said that people were merciless and took each other apart. It wasn’t like that when you were there? – No, but it usually is. There is usually a bit of small-knife. I just did what I could, says Kloster. Published 04.08.2024, at 13.34 Updated 04.08.2024, at 13.38
