Introducing the Alpine A390: A New Era in Electric Performance

Alpine, the renowned sports brand under the Renault umbrella, is making waves with its latest  electric vehicle , the A390. This model marks a significant shift in Alpine’s lineup, especially as it introduces a compelling  electric crossover  to the market. Following the launch of the Alpine A290, which was based on the Renault 5 E-Tech, the A390 stands as an independent model, showcasing  advanced automotive engineering .

Measuring  4.62 meters  in length, the A390 occupies a unique position in the Automotive landscape. While it draws inspiration from the SUV segment—with a design combining the characteristics of a fastback and crossover—its height of  1.53 meters  keeps it closer to sedans than traditional SUVs. This innovative design allows for greater versatility, combining a sporty aesthetic with practical features.

Dynamic Design and Aesthetic Appeal

The A390’s  styling  was initially hinted at through the A390_β concept. Although the production model’s design remains closely aligned to that of its predecessor, the final version comes with subtler lines and a more refined appearance. Alpine has skillfully integrated a  light bar  at both the front and rear for a modern look, complementing it with a distinctive illuminated logo that adheres to new regulations.

The C-pillars, adorned with the  French flag , pay homage to Alpine’s heritage, reminiscent of the classic A110 berlinette. While the exuberance of the A390_β’s interior didn’t make it to production, the A390 features a dashboard that merges modern aesthetics with practical control layouts, though critics might note the reliance on shared components with Renault models.

This simple yet elegant interior matches the expectations of a luxury vehicle. The A390 includes a  stylish steering wheel  and a central console that showcases Alpine’s design philosophy while offering ergonomics that enhance the driving experience.

Performance Specifications: A Blend of Power and Efficiency

Equipped with the  AmpR Medium  platform, the A390 harnesses the power of electric technology. Available in two versions—the  GT  and  GTS —the power outputs vary from  400 hp  to an impressive  470 hp , with torque figures of  650 Nm  and  808 Nm , respectively. The GTS variant accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in an astounding  3.9 seconds , matching the time taken by the lightweight A110 R. This promising figure suggests that the A390 combines the spirited performance expected from Alpine with the practicality of an electric crossover.

But, with great power comes significant weight. The A390 weighs in at  2121 kg , nearly double that of the A110 R. This substantial weight presents challenges, particularly in maintaining the desired driving dynamics. Nevertheless, the engineers at Alpine remain optimistic about the vehicle’s mass distribution, with a near-equal front-to-rear weight distribution of  49% to 51% .

Battery and Charging Features

The A390 boasts an impressive  89 kWh battery  capable of delivering a  555 km  range as per WLTP standards. Constructed with NMC lithium-ion technology, its output lies within competitive ranges, though its peak charging rate of  190 kW  lags behind some competitors. This charging capability allows for a  15% to 80%  battery charge in under  25 minutes , a decent, if not groundbreaking, achievement in the current electric vehicle market.

The prestigious  Alpine A390  is set to be manufactured in Dieppe, France, where it will share facilities with its predecessor, the A110. The upcoming model is projected to launch in the autumn, with pre-estimated prices ranging from  €65,000 to €76,000 .

The  Cupra Tavascan , one of its nearest rivals, starts at  €64,930 , with entry-level versions coming in nearly  €20,000 cheaper  than the A390. This makes the A390 a premium choice, more aligned with performance than practicality.

While the A390 diverges from conventional crossover designs, it successfully merges luxury, performance, and modern electric technology. Therefore, it might appeal to consumers looking for a blend of sportiness and everyday utility in their vehicles.

As the market for electric vehicles continues to evolve, all eyes will undoubtedly be on Alpine’s latest offering, the A390, as it seeks to define the future of luxury electric driving. With its advanced technological features and performance capabilities, it promises to carve a niche in the rapidly growing sector of electric vehicles.
