Girls in the 13-18 age group also receive such questions twice as often as boys in the same age group. – We see that there are clear gender differences in who is asked. At the same time, there are many girls who resist and that is good, says Velsand. Because although almost half (47 per cent) of girls aged 13-14 have been asked to share nude photos, only 8 per cent state that they have done so. There are still more than six years ago, when only 3 percent in the same group said they had shared a photo. Among girls aged 17-18, 19 per cent answer the same. The survey also shows that four out of ten have received nude photos from others. It is most common for young people to receive such requests from an unknown person. 18 percent also state that they receive questions about nude photos from a boy friend. CONCERNED: Mari Velsand in the Norwegian Media Authority thinks it is worrying that many young girls experience nagging and pressure from strangers to share nude photos. – It is worrying that there are strangers online asking for nude photos. Children and young people should not have to deal with such questions from strangers. They shouldn’t have been exposed to that. Fears more sales of images The survey from the Norwegian Media Authority also shows that 16 per cent of girls between the ages of 13 and 14 have been asked to send nude pictures of themselves for payment. The police say they have registered an increase in recent years in the number of children selling nude photos or videos of themselves online, and often on Snapchat. – Over time, we have seen an increase in this phenomenon. But we cannot estimate the exact number, says section leader at the section for internet-related abuse, Helge Haugland in Kripos. SEEING AN INCREASE: Helge Haugland in Kripos is concerned that more young people may feel pressured to sell nude pictures of themselves. Photo: Ine Julia Rojahn Schwebs / news He says that they consider it likely that the extent of buying and selling nude photos and videos of minors will increase in the future. – It is based on the fact that the offended often do not see themselves as victims, but they feel that there is profit in selling nude pictures of themselves, he says further. Velsand encourages parents and schools to talk to children and young people. – It is important to talk to the children about setting boundaries and create a sense of security that allows the children to speak up if they find themselves in such a situation. Velsand also says that if it is difficult to talk to parents, there are anonymous services. – Through ung.no and cross on the neck, you can get anonymous help, there you can get help and good advice.
