Alleged ELN Pamphlet Sparks Concern in Antioquia

In recent days, the rural areas of Andes and Támesis in the southwest of Antioquia have been engulfed in unease following the installation of several flags allegedly belonging to the National Liberation Army (ELN). This concerning development triggered an urgent response from local authorities and evoked anxiety among the residents in these areas.
The Emergence of the Pamphlet
Shortly after the flags appeared, a pamphlet allegedly issued by the ELN began circulating in nearby communities. The document purportedly declared the group’s intention to establish a presence in the territory, aiming to confront competing criminal elements. Official Denouncements
The Colombian National Army and local police promptly dismissed the authenticity of the pamphlet, asserting it to be false. They urged residents not to succumb to intimidation and to remain vigilant by reporting any unusual incidents that might disrupt community peace.
Luis Eduardo Martínez, the Secretary of Security for Antioquia, expressed this sentiment, emphasizing that the pamphlet’s claims were not credible. One of the main points raised by authorities was that the pamphlet mentioned the “Omar Gómez Western War Front,” a designation that is outdated, having been replaced by the name “Ogli Padilla.”
Investigative Actions and Public Safety
Despite the denouncement, investigations into both the flag installations and the pamphlet’s circulation are ongoing. Authorities continue to highlight the need for community cooperation. They requested residents to maintain open lines of communication with public forces, particularly in reporting suspicious activities.
Based on intelligence reports, the flags’ appearance seems to be a calculated move to create a perception of territorial control in the communities, possibly to facilitate extortion or to establish dominance over illicit businesses in the region.
The Search for Alias Yosa
In a bid to neutralize the unsettling situation, the government of Antioquia has offered a reward of up to 200 million pesos for any actionable information that leads to the capture of “alias Yosa.” This individual is regarded as the primary suspect behind the flag placements and is purportedly tied to both the ELN and the Clan del Golfo, a criminal organization he was previously involved with.
