The mediation between Sør-Fosen sijte and Fosen Vind has resulted in an amicable agreement between the parties, states the Ministry of Oil and Energy in a press release. The agreement will help ensure further reindeer husbandry, mitigate operational disadvantages, and provide a basis for future cultural practice for Sør-Fosen site from a generational perspective. Arrangements are being made for the Sør-Fosen site to be able to use an additional area for winter grazing outside the Fosen reindeer herding district. The wind turbines in their area are allowed to survive the concession period, which is 25 years. After that, it has been agreed that Sør-Fosen site will have veto rights over the wind power plant’s further operation. This means that the licensees cannot apply for an extension or renewal of the license without consent from Sør-Fosen site. No agreement in the northern group The agreement only applies to the southern group of reindeer owners at Fosen. The northern group is in negotiations with the developer Aneo, and has not reached an agreement so far. They last met in November. Nordgruppen’s areas concern the development in Roan. Sørgruppen has reached an agreement for the Storheia mountain area with developer Fosen Vind, where Statkraft is the owner. Read the entire content of the agreement here. – Future-oriented solution Oil and Energy Minister Terje Aasland says there is no doubt that the Fosen case has been burdensome for the families who run reindeer herding on Fosen, who have lived with the conflict for several years. – I am therefore pleased that, through the mediation process, the parties and the state have reached a mutually agreed, good and forward-looking solution. My hope is that with this, new generations can also see the possibility of continuing the reindeer herding at Fosen, says Aasland in the press release. Fosen Vind is happy that an agreement is in place. – The agreement gives the site security for continued operation, also for future generations, says managing director Tom Kristian Larsen at Fosen Vind. The Supreme Court has ruled that the wind turbines at Fosen contravene human rights. In spring and autumn there have been demonstrations against the fact that turbine operation at Fosen has been maintained despite the Supreme Court verdict.
