June 1, 2022 at 20:00 Against Danish yes to the EU’s defense co-operation 69.1 per cent of Danes say yes to the country joining the EU’s defense co-operation, according to an election day poll. It reports Danmarks Radio. Polling stations closed at 8 p.m. Denmark has been outside the defense co-operation since it was established in the 1990s. Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen took the initiative for the referendum after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. By participating in the EU’s defense cooperation, Denmark gets to participate in discussing and deciding where and when the EU will launch military operations. They will still be able to choose whether Danish soldiers will participate in a given operation, and decide how much resources Denmark may contribute.
