– I was supposed to help her earn some money, but I didn’t know what the money was for. That’s what the man in his 20s says who exposed a 12-year-old girl to sex for sexual services on Snapchat. For this, he is charged with aggravated human trafficking and exploiting the girl for prostitution. The defendant says in court that he cannot figure out whether he knew the girl’s age or whether he asked how old she was. – I found out about it gradually, but I don’t remember when it was. I know it was crazy. He is also charged with repeated intercourse with the 12-year-old girl over a period of two months. In one case, he allegedly paid the girl for intercourse. Since the girl is under 14, voluntary intercourse is also considered rape. In court, it emerges that the defendant himself has been subjected to online abuse as a child. He is also charged with attempted sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl and for attempting to use the 12-year-old and another girl for prostitution. In addition, he is accused of having paid three of the girls to have intercourse with them. In court, the defendant says that he did not know how old the underage girls were. – Do you care how old the girls are?, asks prosecutor Per Morten Schjetne. – Yes, the defendant replies, but says that he cannot come up with an example of how he has cared about age. In an arranged interrogation by the police, one of the offended girls explained that she and the prosecution talked about the fact that she was only 15 years old. – Then he said to me “Yes, but I am quite good at talking to the police without any problems”, the girl explained in the interview that was played in court. The defendant has admitted to having intercourse with the 15-year-old girl on several occasions. – It was terrible. Because he is a grown man, she said in the interview. It was she who notified the police that the defendant paid her friend, the 12-year-old girl, to have intercourse with her. On one occasion, the prosecution is said to have switched between the two friends during the same sexual intercourse. The 20-year-old admits criminal liability against seven of the eight girls in total. He does not acknowledge criminal liability for the 13-year-old girl with whom he is said to have tried to achieve sexual intercourse. Posted 12-year-old for sale on Snapchat The defendant is said to have created an account on Snapchat where he posted the 12-year-old for sale. There must have been a relationship between the two and, according to the indictment, the defendant exploited the feelings the 12-year-old had for him in the prostitution of her. He also allegedly took advantage of her young age, vulnerability and need for money. On Snapchat, the defendant shared a sexualized picture of the 12-year-old that she had previously sent to him. The ticket was part of an advertisement in which the 12-year-old was given a different name and an age of 16. Together with the ticket, the defendant published a price list from NOK 500 to NOK 8,000 for various sexual services the girl could offer. For this, the 20-year-old is accused of exploiting the 12-year-old girl for prostitution and attempted gross human trafficking. According to the indictment, it was the 20-year-old who decided what sexual services she would offer and what it would cost. But the defendant does not agree. – It was both of us who decided the price, says the defendant in court. According to the indictment, he was to receive half of the amount that was agreed upon. In a message on Snapchat, the accused wrote to the 12-year-old “You earn 7k in two hours, that’s damn nice”. A meeting was arranged between the 12-year-old and a buyer of sexual services from her, but this never happened. Because just before, the friend, who is also offended in the case, notified the police. The trial will take place behind closed doors in Trøndelag district court from 21 to 28 November, but with access for the press. Then there was talk of advertising her picture and thus promoting her prostitution, says the 20-year-old. The defendant explains that he made contact with the girl via social media – the 15-year-old lives in another city in the country. Why would you publish this advertisement?, asks the prosecutor. – I guess I saw the opportunity to earn a few kroner, the defendant replies. The defendant told the court that from an early age he moved out on his own and bought sexual services because he was lonely. Several cases dismissed – The defendant had had sexual relations with several girls under the age of sexual intercourse. That’s what the prosecutor in the case, State Attorney Per Morten Schjetne, says. The 20-year-old had status as a suspect in a total of 30 cases, but several of the cases have been dismissed with a failure to prosecute. Several of the girls from the failure to prosecute have been questioned by the police, which led to the police uncovering several of the criminal circumstances that are part of the indictment.
