28 September 2023 at 13:36 Actor Michael Gambon is dead Actor Sir Michael Gambon, best known for playing Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter films, has died. Irish-English Gambon was 82 years old. He fell asleep peacefully in hospital, according to his family. He is perhaps best known for playing Professor Dumbledore after the death of actor Richard Harris, who portrayed the role in the first two films, in 2002. Gambon began his career on the British stage in the early 1960s. He particularly excelled in a number of Shakespeare plays such as Hamlet, Macbeth and Othello. He was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 1999 for his long-standing contribution to British drama. One of his last roles was in 2019, where he played in the film “Judy” with, among others, RenĂ©e Zellweger.
