Accused man is nevertheless remanded in custody – news Oslo og Viken – Local news, TV and radio

On Tuesday morning, a woman was found badly injured in a car in the center of Askim. The woman was pronounced dead shortly afterwards. The driver, a man in his 50s, was charged the same day with negligent homicide, but the Follo and Nordre Østfold district court believed there was no basis for remanding the man. On Friday, the Eidsivating Court of Appeal reviewed the decision. The man will therefore be detained for two weeks with a ban on letters and visits. At the same time, the Court of Appeal writes that the autopsy report currently shows that the accused may have acted more reprehensibly than he has acknowledged. Doubts about the explanation The man has explained that he picked up the woman at an emergency room and was going to drive her home. But on the way the woman is said to have jumped out of the car at a very high speed. He backed away and tried to contact the emergency services, but his cellphone was out of power. The accused man does not remember where the woman allegedly jumped out, but remembers that he drove as fast as he could to find a hospital. Eventually they ended up in Askim where they had a car stopped and got help. The police’s forensic technicians are investigating the place where the car with the woman was found in Askim. They base this on the assessments of the woman’s injuries in the preliminary autopsy report. At the same time, the Court of Appeal writes that if the accused has explained voices, he has acted negligently when he reversed the car. Blood on the road The police believe there are three possible conditions that could have caused the accused to have caused the woman’s death: That he should have stopped the car when the woman threatened to get out of the car or took off her seat belt. That he backed up at high speed and may have run over her leg. That he did not immediately contact the emergency services or start life-saving treatment. The police also believe that they have found a possible crime scene for the incident. Among other things, they have discovered what appears to be blood on the road. Police prosecutor Ole Friestad does not want to say whether the findings in Aurskog-Høland have strengthened or weakened the accused man’s explanation. – We believe that a clash has occurred, but do not want to go into anything more concrete about the course of events or what has been explained in questioning, he says. He says that the police discovered the possible crime scene with the help of a dog search. – Based on the information in the case, we found reason to investigate this area more closely, says Friestad. The police want contact with people who were in the area on the night of Tuesday 19 July. They are calling for tips regarding sightings of a 2022 model Suzuki Across. The man pleads not guilty.
