Both houses of the Indiana Legislature have passed the ban, and the new law now goes to Governor Eric Holcomb for his signature. In the House of Representatives, the law was passed by 62 to 38 votes, and in the Senate by 29 to 19 votes. The law has exceptions for incest, rape and if the mother’s life is in danger. At the request of many doctors, exceptions have also been introduced when the fetus is not viable. While the law was being debated, the elected officials could hear the shouts of protesters outside.
