The phenomenon known as  Labubu  has become a cultural conversation starter, capturing the attention of not only children and toy collectors but also the broader mainstream media. Over the past few months, this character, characterized by its unmistakable  Jalton eyes  and  Aviesa smile , has garnered an impressive commercial reputation, becoming the talk of the town for its soaring  financial success . The brand has drawn celebrity endorsements from icons like  Rihanna  and  K-Pop sensations , but a bizarre new twist has emerged: a conspiracy theory linking Labubu to  Pazuzu , a demon from ancient Mesopotamian mythology.

As absurd as it sounds, the conspiracy theory is spreading like wildfire across various platforms, including X, TikTok, Instagram, and Reddit. Numerous  posts ,  videos , and  photos  suggest that Labubu is more than just a playful toy. Many of these messages take on a  darkly ironic  tone, raising more questions than they answer. Other accounts, featuring footage of people  burning Labubu dolls , present a far more serious perspective, prompting discussions about whether there’s something sinister behind the adorable exterior.

Created by  Kasing Lung  in  2015 , Labubu has evolved into a commercial titan, thanks largely to a unique blend of  design ,  marketing , and  virality .  Pazuzu , on the other hand, is known as a malevolent deity, often depicted with a distinct fierce face, fangs, claws, wings, horns, and in some cases, a scorpion tail. These opposing icons form the backbone of the bizarre narrative now captivating audiences.

In terms of  what individuals are stating , the supporters of this conspiracy theory argue that Labubu has demonic origins. One notable viral tweet from the account @Cservativeog featured a video depicting a man with a flamethrower burning a Labubu. During the video, he warned, “Labubu dolls are demonic. Save yourself, save your kids, save your country!” This alarming message has triggered a  crowdfunding campaign  designed to raise  $150,000  to buy and destroy the dolls, highlighting a fervent belief among a specific group that they represent the  incarnation of Pazuzu .

In light of these warnings, various examples circulate across social media platforms. For instance, Wallmotivates shared a video on Instagram that compared a Labubu to Pazuzu and warned viewers against purchasing it for their children. The  fear-mongering  is further encapsulated in TikTok videos where individuals post content of them incinerating Labubu toys in a show of defiance.

While the furor has primarily unfolded online, mainstream media outlets have delved into the story as well, with publications like  Live Science ,  NDTV , and  Huffpost  examining the rising tide of concern over Labubu’s supposedly malign character. Snopes, the fact-checking website, took a closer look at the claims, attempting to clarify whether Kasing Lung’s designs were indeed inspired by  Pazuzu . Although they could not reach Lung for comment, Snopes found no evidence supporting this theory.

Interestingly, Lung himself has attributed his inspiration to  European fairy tales  he read as a child. There is no mention of ancient demons or Mesopotamian mythology in his creative processes. The  Pop Mart  company, which sells the dolls, also provides details stating that Labubu is meant to be playful and mischievous but fundamentally  harmless . In their community guidelines, they stress that Labubu embodies  optimism  and  kindness .

It’s worth noting that the media frenzy surrounding Labubu is not an isolated incident. This isn’t the first time toys or pop culture icons have faced scrutiny for alleged sinister affiliations. Before Labubu, characters like  Hello Kitty  and  Pokemon  were once caught in controversies suggesting they had darker roots.

The overwhelming popularity of Labubu has unfortunately also attracted conspiracy theories that find echo in ages past. Similar instances show a pattern of cultural artifacts being scrutinized for hidden malicious intentions. Though the debate continues over whether there’s any substance to the claims against Labubu, what remains clear is that this plush character has attained a status that is both  beloved  and  controversial .

The surreal journey of Labubu, from an innocuous children’s toy to a demonically alleged entity, underlines how quickly public perception can sway in the age of social media. While many remain enchanted by the charm and quirkiness of Labubu, others will not hesitate to detect an insidious agenda. Understanding these dichotomies is crucial in dissecting the complex relationship between culture, history, and modern consumerism.

Whether based on fact or fiction, Labubu’s tale is a thought-provoking one, asking us to consider how myths and modernity coexist. No matter the outcome of this debate, it is certain that Labubu’s impact on popular culture will remain significant, crafting an engaging narrative that connects generations.
