A person has been pulled from the water after a kayak went round in a river in Lom. There were two kayaks in the water, while several people followed along the river. The person was held in the water by other people on the scene before they got the person up with the help of an ambulance helicopter. – The person was worked on for a long time by health personnel at the scene and has now been flown on to St. Olav’s hospital in Trondheim, says operations manager at the police in Innlandet, Sidsel Svarstad. Air ambulance, rescue helicopter and alpine rescue team participated in the rescue operation. The person was picked up from a 60-70 meter gorge, and has been flown to hospital. The rescue conditions must have been demanding, according to operations manager Sidsel Svarstad. – We had challenges getting down. The air ambulance did not have a lift, so they had to descend to the ground with ropes. The air ambulance hoisted the patient up from below the helicopter. Svarstad says the police were alerted to the incident by someone in the paddling party. Crisis teams have been notified to take care of those who were present during the accident. – This has been dramatic. As the condition of the person in question is unknown, those who were present are taken care of by the municipality’s crisis team, she says.
