– A less and less good idea – news Sport – Sports news, results and broadcasting schedule

– A half marathon far in the future sounds like a good idea. But when there’s only a week left, it sounds like a less and less good idea every day I get closer. Because I am not in a shape that is compatible with running a half marathon, says Ingebrigtsen to news. When we interview him, the 32-year-old has just sprinted across the finish line to a new personal record of 3,000 meters in Zagreb. There are seven days until he has to do something he has never done before. On Sunday, Henrik Børkja Ingebrigtsen makes his debut at the half marathon in Copenhagen, with his wife Liva on the same starting line. He claims the debut is not a signal that his time as a track runner is over for the European champion in 1500 meters from 2012. It is his wife Liva’s desire to get better that means he is now starting a 21,097.5 meter long race. This is how she explains the background: – I’ve always liked running, but I’ve been told for nine years that I’m wrongly trained, badly trained and run wrong. And then I am very stubborn, so I have not allowed Henrik to try to show that he is right until two months ago. Then I decided that I wanted to run the Copenhagen half-marathon, and I wanted to run a little faster, so I let him start a training plan. Photo: @livaingebrigtsen/Instagram – So I had a little hope that Henrik would also get involved eventually, Liva admits. – So that was actually how I started thinking about it. Then I thought “why not, I have nothing to lose”. Imagine if I ran a half marathon and maybe it would be fun. Then I know that maybe there is something I can continue with at the end of my career, says Henrik. You can watch the Købehanvn half marathon on NRK1 and news TV from 11.10 Sunday Taking responsibility for himself After winning medals in four European Championships in a row from 2012 to 2018, Henrik Børkja Ingebrigtsen has struggled a lot with injuries in recent seasons. This year too, there have been elements of both injuries and illness. Nevertheless, 2023 has been a step in the right direction, with personal records in both 3000 and 5000 metres. He qualified for the WC in Budapest. Ingebrigtsen is now quite clear that 5000 meters will be prioritized in the run-up to the Olympics in Paris next summer. He is equally clear that the possibility of success there depends on how well he is able to control himself in training the following year. CHANGE FRYDAR: Henrik Ingebrigtsen replaces 5,000 meters on track with 21,097.5 meters on asphalt. Photo: Fredrik Hagen / NTB – What I know most about getting older is that the consequence of making mistakes in training is much greater than it was before. When I was 20, I could run far too hard in training, and then I could shake it off with a couple of calm sessions, he says. It is no longer like that. – Now it potentially takes a week, or two weeks, to recover from a hard training session, and a minor injury takes three months instead of two weeks. So it makes greater demands on me to use my head and be smart in my training work. That I am not blinded by my own ambition, he warns himself. ON ASPHALT: Henrik Ingebrigtsen has experience with street running, but has never run a half marathon. Photo: Carina Johansen / NTB – Not very ambitious The attempt to take just such precautions throughout the season means that Ingebrigtsen is quite sober before the half marathon debut. Speed training has been prioritized over fitness training. – If I had had six months of conditioning training and threshold training before such a race, I could have been quite ambitious and gone for a good time. But now I have worked with speed. So I’m not very ambitious when I enter that race, but I think I’ll take it as a challenge, he says. The goal is, plain and simple, to run as fast as he can. – Whether it will be 62 or 63 minutes, I don’t know. But if I break 63, and run 62 something, then I’m quite satisfied. – What do you think the time will be? – I hope I see the 62s. So of course I’m going to bet – other people can bet too – but I’m betting 62.41, says Ingebrigtsen. Can Henrik Børkja Ingebrigtsen manage to run a half marathon in under 63 minutes? – A greater achievement In that case, Sondre Nordstad Moen’s Norwegian record of 59.48 lives safely. But Ingebrigtsen is absolutely sure that it will be a personal record. – I always reach the goal. I always reach my goal, he states. – And three Persians in one year, it must be a good job, smiles Henrik Børkja Ingebrigtsen. Liva Børkja Ingebrigtsen also has the goal of “pers”, but for her it is not enough to finish. Unlike the man, she has run a half marathon before, the 3-sea race in Stavanger. Then she sped on in just under two hours and ten minutes. GREAT PROGRESS: Liva Ingebrigtsen has become much better at following the training plans her husband has set up. Photo: news – If I run slower than that, I’ll get mad, but I don’t think that will happen. But I don’t know if I will reach the goal Henrik has set for me, because he has set a goal of his own for me, says Liva. – And that is? – 1.45. If I manage to do that, I will be very impressed with myself. I almost think it is a greater achievement than Henrik achieving his goal. Those who have seen me run will probably agree, she laughs.
