A  fire  and  electric cut  registered last week in western Canada had an unusual origin. According to firefighters from the municipality of Ashcroft,  a fish fell on an electric line  and caused the incident.

The fire originated about  six kilometers  south of the town, and according to the investigation carried out by the Ashcroft Fire Department,  the fish was   loose by an eagle  fisherman in full flight. It hit an electric line and generated sparks that ignited the dry grass on the ground.

“A  rapid investigation  revealed the cause of the fire. It was determined that it was a fish,” firefighters communicated in a publication on social networks. “Yes, you read well, the fish had an incredible trip,” they added, along with images of the charred animal on the blackened ground.

“Another suspicion may be that he is tired of  raw fish  and wanted to try it  cooked ,” the Fire Department humorously remarked. According to the report, the  eagle  was not injured during the incident. “We verify that the main suspect did not suffer injuries,” firefighters said.

The impact of the fish on the high-voltage line  caused sparks  that fell on the dry vegetation, triggering a fire that was contained by emergency services with the help of local farmers.

In total, approximately  18,000 liters of water  were used to quench the flames. Fortunately, no significant material damage or injuries were reported.

The incident also generated a brief cutting of the  electricity supply  in Ashcroft. The service was restored promptly, according to local authorities.

Although  unusual , the event was officially recorded as a “fire caused by an animal object in contact with electrical infrastructure,” a category that encompasses unexpected incidents like this.

The case has been utilized by authorities to illustrate how unexpected factors can trigger emergencies, particularly in contexts of  high risk  for forest fires due to dry land and elevated temperatures.

The area affected by the fire, inside the semi-arid landscape of  British Columbia , presents conditions that are prone to this type of incident during summer months. Ashcroft, in particular, has witnessed  seasonal fires  in recent years, although few as extraordinary as the one that began with a flying fish and compromised an electrical line.

Officials expressed gratitude for the rapid intervention of the firefighting team and emphasized the importance of  immediately reporting  smoke columns or other signs of fire, regardless of their potential origin.

The incident, widely discussed on social media, stands as a striking example of the challenges that  emergency teams  face when dealing with events that combine  natural phenomena , critical infrastructure, and extreme climatic conditions.
