– We are moving into another type of search phase, which is called a search for presumed dead. That’s what Helge Jørstad in the East police district says on Friday morning. One person is still missing after a canoe overturned in Vansjø on Thursday evening. – We don’t have a crew out there now. A search will be carried out throughout the morning. No time has been set for when, says Jørstad at 09:00. The plan is for the search for the man to resume on Friday morning. The police say they will start the search when it is daylight again. The next of kin have been notified. “Quite cold” water On Thursday evening, the police reported that a canoe had capsized in a lake in Østfold. Two men were in the canoe, and both had ended up in the water. According to the police, one of them had swum ashore to call for help. The man, who is in his 40s, has been sent to hospital. – We will question the party who is in hospital, says Jørstad on Friday morning. The person is described as physically unharmed, but is in hospital for a check-up. The water has been described as “quite cold”. In the end, they decided to call off the search. – It has been decided with qualified personnel, i.e. the main rescue center and doctors involved, says Jørstad. By then it had become dark, and only half a meter of visibility in the water. There has also been a search along the shore with dogs in the event that the missing person may have gone ashore without being able to give notice.
