More than 10,000 people were ordered to evacuate their homes as strong winds pushed a wildfire toward ranches and homes, authorities said Thursday. The fire started in a valley on Wednesday and has spread westwards. Around 20,000 acres have been affected by the flames, writes the Reuters news agency. Several civilians have been injured, homes have been lost in the flames. Businesses and other structures have been destroyed, said Ventura County Fire Chief Tony McHale. According to the Los Angeles Times, over 90 homes have been destroyed by the fire. So far this year, there have been three times as many wildfires in California compared to the same time last year.
