A river that has overflowed its banks has caused flooding in the center of Ørnes and this has led to large masses of water in the center of Ørnes. Meløy municipality has set up a crisis team and the police are making a request not to use the car park at Ørnes centrum 2, and that people avoid traveling in the area. – There is a lot of flooding in the area and it is planned that construction machinery will be used inside the area. Several businesses are closed due to water damage. It is unknown how long it will take before the damage is repaired, the police said. Both residents and businesses have felt the consequences of the flooding. – We’ve got a river between Møbelringen and the sports shop here, says general manager Christina Dybvik at Møbelringen in Ørnes. She has been at work since 06:00 this morning. – The bodies of water come from the river up in the mountains and have taken a good deal of rock with them. As a result, the drains become clogged, she says. The fire service is now working to pump away the water, but Møbelringen’s premises have been damaged by the flooding. – We have managed to save the greatest values, but some furniture has been destroyed. In addition, we will probably have to lay a new floor as well, says Dybvik.
