– I should know better and not join Jo Inge’s game, but it is insane of Marius Lien to blow it, says YMCA profile Momodou Njie. It was in the 69th minute that things suddenly boiled over at Ekeberg. A seemingly harmless corner kick from Sarpsborg 08 resulted in a row and a penalty kick for the Sarpsborgs. Judge Marius Lien believed that Momodou Njie had committed an offense when his shoulder hit the face of Sarpsborg profile Jo Inge Berget, who went to the ground. Njie also received a yellow card for the incident. It caused the YMCA profile to rage after the game. – We lost three points because of a ridiculous penalty situation where one of the weakest (judges) we have in the league is deceived, he says, referring to Lien. RECEIVES CRITICISM: Marius Lien got his skin full by Momodou Njie after the match. Photo: Svein Ove Ekornesvåg / NTB – Jo Inge and I stood and laughed Former national team captain Stefan Johansen was safe from the penalty spot and put the ball in the goal. – When someone runs towards you, you splash. So I raised my shoulder. I don’t know if they interpret it as a blow. If they interpret it as a blow, then I will have a red card. It’s weird. It’s bad, says Njie. – You didn’t try to hit him with your shoulder? – No, no. Not at all. Jo Inge and I stood laughing at the next corner. We laughed at the referee. It was just plain embarrassing. He can put that on his cloak. I have to learn too. I have a lot to learn from Jo Inge. He’s been in the game a long time. CONTROVERSIAL SITUATION: Sarpsborg 08 were awarded a penalty kick after Jo Inge Berget went to the ground. Photo: Cornelius Poppe / NTB He goes so far as to suggest that Lien does not belong at the top level of Norwegian football and goes for a frontal attack on the top referee. – He is not an elite series judge. He has nothing to do in an elite series arena. He has an extreme lack of understanding of the game that you shouldn’t have in the Eliteserien, says Njie. news has spoken to judge Marius Lien. You can read his response to the criticism further down in the case. news has also tried to get in touch with the NFF’s disciplinary committee for a comment. They have not yet responded to the inquiry. The NFF’s guidelines for disciplinary matters state the following about verbal abuse towards the referees: “Abusive verbal abuse directed directly at members of the refereeing team, spoken to the media or expressed on social media shall be considered inappropriate behaviour”. It is further stated that inappropriate statements should normally result in one to three match suspensions, but it is therefore not known whether the NFF believes the statements fall under this category. No case has been opened against Njie. Criticized by experts But not everyone agrees with the YMCA player. He receives criticism from TV 2’s football expert Jesper Mathisen after the match, who believes it was a reckless act. – I think it is one hundred percent correct. He loses it to Jo Inge Berget. All referees blow penalties on it. Things can happen in the field that the referee doesn’t see. Coincidentally, Lien gets it, and he solves it well, says Mathisen to news. REACTS: TV 2’s Jesper Mathisen chastises Momodou Njie’s behaviour. Photo: Fredrik Varfjell / NTB Mathisen believes it will all have consequences for the centre-back. – I expect that will result in a suspension, he cannot make statements like that to the judges. They are doing the best they can, and you have to respect that. He (Njie) is not Norway’s best stopper and Marius Lien is not Norway’s best referee either. But to make a statement like that is over the line, says the TV 2 expert. He continues: – It was a correctly awarded penalty kick, and I think that speaking out like that will have consequences, he says. He is supported by news’s football expert Carl-Erik Torp. – I think he should be too good for that. He acts in the affect of that fight. I agree with him that he (Njie) is being punished far too harshly. I think he was frustrated and needs to learn to avoid it. Such strong reactions cannot be allowed, Torp believes. At the same time, he says that he believes there should not be a penalty kick and that the game should have been waved on. – I think when I see it, it’s nothing. There are situations that happen a hundred times in sixteen meters with corners and free kicks. There is always pushing and shoving, so there is nothing, says the news expert. CRITICAL: news’s football expert Carl-Erik Torp is not impressed by Momodou Njie’s statements. Photo: Birk Pessl-Kleiven / news This is how the judge responds The news expert also believes that the incident will be followed up, without him deciding whether he should be punished or not. When judge Lien came to the interview zone to talk to news, several YMCA players gathered to listen to the judge’s explanation. During the interview, there was loud talk from several of the audience, before someone from the YMCA’s support staff made them be quiet. Lien himself defends the decision, and says he had no doubts. – He was not interested in playing ball there and only focused on the Sarpsborg player. An unsporting act, quite simply, says Lien to news. Berget himself admitted after the match that he took advantage of the maneuver from Njie. – Njie says he gets a little scared. That Jo Inge comes in and that he reacts to it. You don’t see that? – That is not how I perceive the situation. – How is it to hear that he throws out that it is the worst thing he has seen in the Eliteserien and that you do not deserve to judge there? – It is a statement I do not wish to comment on. He must be allowed to think and stand for that. Njie snorts at Lien’s answer and does not agree with the top judge’s explanation. – It will be too stupid. While our goalkeeper has the ball, he says that I am focused on Berget. Of course I have to focus on him who runs into me. It’s so weak. It’s so thin. Unfortunately, his football skills don’t surprise me. Published 04.11.2024, at 14.02 Updated 04.11.2024, at 14.06
