– It is not an easy decision, says Mayor Jonny Liland (Ap) from the podium during tonight’s meeting. He was one of 12 politicians who voted against 100 new wind turbines at Tonstad. Seven politicians from the Center Party, the Conservative Party and the Christian People’s Party voted in favor. Norsk Vind AS and Hydro Rein AS will build the 250 meter high turbines. In today’s municipal council meeting, there was a question as to whether the two new wind farms should be assessed. Before the meeting, several protesters met outside the municipal hall in Tonstad, where the politicians were to vote on the proposal. Many members of the public turned up for tonight’s municipal council meeting in Sirdal. Photo: Sirdal municipality Fears for tourism From before, there are 51 wind turbines at Tonstad. They were built in 2020. The wind turbines have created enormous interest in the municipality. Mayor of Sirdal Jonny Liland (Ap) has previously told news that the wind turbines have created divisions in the local community. Liland believes that Sirdal will be changed forever if 100 new turbines are built. – We will be affected regardless of whether it is a yes or no. If the answer is yes, then both nature and society will change. If there is a no, then nature will in any case be preserved, he says. In addition, Liland is worried about tourism if more of nature is developed, and he claims that young people hesitate to settle in the village if there are more wind turbines.
