“The Holy Gosh Darn” – news Culture and entertainment

If you like fun adventure games, you should keep your eyes and ears peeled now. “The Holy Gosh Darn” – or “Den Hellige Fy Flate”, as it is called in Norwegian – can be mentioned in the same breath as game series such as “Monkey Island”. I mean it. In all seriousness. Here it’s about pondering, experimenting and laughing your way through dialogues and tasks to get the story to its logical conclusion. And this is where the game really shines. Because not only is the story complete and good, there is also a whole load of well-functioning jokes, brilliant humor and wild details that spice up the experience. It all takes place in heaven, the one with a capital H, that is. For a long time only dogs have been allowed in, they are the only completely pure and innocent creatures on Earth. Caught in a time loop In the game’s opening sequence, we see an army of ghouls invading. The sky explodes. You are given a magic watch by Death that makes it possible to rewind time six hours. Your job will therefore be to make sure that the sky does not explode. The time loop party is a fact. You have to talk to people and fairies, find the solution to riddles, look for clues and hunt for objects – and then make use of everything you have found out when you rewind time and start again. Much of this is used in the big picture, as part of the common thread that gets you to the conclusion of the story. Cassiel is given a pocket watch by Death that she can use to travel in time. Perfectly Paranormal/Yogscast Games Other things are dusty (but fun!) diversions. For example, you can hear an actor acting out the entire plot of the studio’s first game, “Manuel Samuel,” on a radio. And still other things can only be described as pure time loop humor. For example, you can note down what kind of dogs arrive, rewind time and impress your friend by guessing correctly 10, 20, 50, 100 and probably 1000 times. UNIQUE HUMOR: Cassiel ends up in various absurd situations. The game creators are also not afraid to joke a little blasphemously with divine figures. Photo: Perfectly Paranormal/Yogscast Games “Monkey Island” meets “Deathloop” In other words, it’s a game that combines classic adventure game mediation with a time loop. The concept is not unique, it has worked great in games like “Outer Wilds” and “Deathloop”. But that requires a lot of history. It is incredibly ambitious to build a history that repeats itself in this way. I am hugely impressed by how steadily Perfectly Paranormal lands it all. CONTRASTS: Cassiel travels to both Heaven and Hell. Photo: Perfectly Paranormal/Yogscast Games They can of course thank a lot of good people for that, and it’s probably a bit unfair to single out one of the developers in this review. But I have to do it anyway. Because just like in “Manuel Samuel” and “Helheim Hassle”, joker Ozan Drøsdal cracks out of every crack in “The Holy Gosh Darn”. He sings happy Christian songs, he voices several of the characters, he is responsible for the jokes and the story, and he has full control of an entire game universe that at least makes sense in his head. POINT AND CLICK: The game consists of good old-fashioned point and click principles. In addition, the game runs in a six-hour loop that repeats itself over and over again. Photo: Perfectly Paranormal/Yogscast Games Tuesday’s trilogy “Manuel Samuel”, “Helheim Hassle” and “The Holy Gosh Darn” takes place on the same Tuesday. They connect in both obvious and completely surprising ways. It’s simply brilliant. It is no wonder that Drøsdal himself calls this publication the end of his magnum opus. With the progression both Drøsdal and Perfectly Paranormal have had through these three games, I think he’s wrong about that. We have probably only seen the start of something. It must be mentioned that it is frustrating to stand still without fully understanding where the road goes next and what you have missed. It happens occasionally. It is also possible that the peculiar humor of the game will not hit everyone equally. Something that probably characterizes all good humor. In any case, the overall impression is very good. “The Holy Gosh Darn” is a wonderful adventure game that bubbles over with creative joy and creativity. And then it is simply very, very, very funny. news reviews Photo: Perfectly Paranormal/Yogscast Games Title: “The Holy Gosh Darn” (Den Hellige Fy Flate) Genre: Adventure Platform: PC (tested), Playstation, Xbox, Switch Developer: Perfectly Paranormal Publisher: Yogscast Age: 12+ Date : 26 September 2024 Hello, game friends!
