Sisters in their 70s accused of violence against their 99-year-old mother

The police believe the two sisters in their 70s have subjected their 99-year-old mother to violence or other violations repeatedly. They are charged with abuse in close relationships. The charge was brought on the basis of information from the health care system. – There is talk of violence which has led to her needing medical treatment, says deputy police officer Ingrid Hagen in the Innlandet police district. She characterizes the matter as very serious. The woman’s legal counsel, Helge Hartz, says he has never in his work as a lawyer come across a similar case. It has not been possible for the police to question the 99-year-old woman yet due to her health situation. Denies criminal responsibility The two sisters from Hedmarken are 72 and 75 years old. The eldest has the same address as the mother in a municipality in Hedmarken. Both were arrested and imprisoned for a week after the violent incident that occurred on the night of 31 July. She denies criminal guilt, says Frang. The other sister also denies criminal guilt. Reconstruction On Monday this week, the police carried out a reconstruction in the house of the 99-year-old woman in which both sisters participated. – The accused have been given the opportunity to explain themselves at the place where the violent incident is supposed to have taken place, says deputy police officer Ingrid Hagen. Ove Herman Frang says his client cooperated with the police, but maintained her explanation that she has done nothing wrong. Both sisters have now been released. After conducting several interrogations while in custody, the police did not find it necessary to ask for extended detention. None of the women is previously known to the police. Never come across anything like it. Both the police and the legal counsel for the 99-year-old woman say that this is a very special case. – I have not come across anything similar and I don’t think very many others have either. So it is clear that this is special in every way, says Deputy Police Commissioner Hagen. She cannot yet say more about what kind of violence the 99-year-old woman has been subjected to. The penalty for the charge is imprisonment for up to six years. The police are now working with witness interviews and collecting more documentation from the health care system.
