– I don’t know if I’ve gotten over the shock yet. I love it! says Kjersti Saksen Hammer. On Saturday, she married Anders Vadla. But it was not planned. At least not by the couple themselves. More on that soon. The two have been lovers for over 16 years. In February they got engaged. Then Kjersti had waited long enough, she thought. – On the second anniversary, I proposed. Fortunately, he said yes. The couple and their three children live on Sjernarøy outside Stavanger. Photo: Jakub Krzysztof Spadlo / news But then there was the wedding planning. At the top of a busy weekday. Maybe they should just get it done at the town hall? – These friends of mine were clearly not in agreement, Saksen Hammer laughs. Received by 66 guests Because behind the backs of the newlyweds, since before the summer, there has been an ever so small prank. And at the weekend, everything should come to light. Then it was perfect that Kjersti and Anders went from Sjernarøy to Stavanger on a mini-holiday with a couple of friends on Friday. While they ate good food in a restaurant and slept well in the hotel bed, a party was arranged in the homestead. Heider’s guests suspected nothing. No one had talked. The next day it was time to take the boat back home. The then-engaged couple had barely landed on the island where they live, when they were welcomed by 66 wedding guests. – When we arrived driving, the whole gang was standing there, says the groom. When the couple returned home from Stavanger, the guests stood along the road and wished them welcome to their own wedding. Photo: Privat The mother-in-law was skeptical But isn’t it risky to plan a wedding on behalf of others? – I am probably a slightly overzealous person, but I thought they were terribly lazy. And I knew they wanted to get married, assures her friend Kine Aartun Norheim. Kine Aartun Norheim was sure that the bride and groom wanted each other when she started planning the wedding behind their backs. Photo: Jakub Krzysztof Spadlo / news But there was too much back and forth with the couple, so in June she started planning. Tents and musicians were ordered. And many wanted to help, even if there was skepticism in the group at the beginning. Among other things, the groom’s mother was not entirely convinced. Sissel Vadla was a little skeptical about the plans at the beginning. But Kine Aartun Norheim was sure that the surprise was in order. Photo: Jakub Krzysztof Spadlo / news – I needed a few minutes to think about it and thought it was a bit on the borderline, but Kine is good at persuading, says Sissel Vadla. Fortunately. – We have avoided all stress and planning. I am so impressed and grateful. It probably takes some time to digest all the impressions, says Kjersti Saksen Hammer. The wedding couldn’t have been better. Mother’s dress and the suit from the closet When they got home, the bride was dressed in her mother’s old wedding dress. Kjersti and her sister use the same size, so she had tried it on on behalf of the bride. – For me, they found the suit in my closet. I stood ready under the flower arch on the quay and she came walking with her father, describe to the groom when they were to become husband and wife. – How was it? – It was fantastic and strong when you are not prepared for it, he says. The speech was not premeditated either. – It was a very improvised speech, laughs Vadla. The bride and groom are particularly pleased with the nice weather they had on their wedding day. Photo: Privat And the party couldn’t have been better. – You can hear it in my voice that there was a good atmosphere, he laughs. The wife agrees. – It was absolutely perfect! Obviously they knew what we wanted. They created the dream wedding. But now Vadla is unsure whether he dares to travel to Stavanger again for fear of what his friends may have arranged when he gets home. – Our friends can obviously trick us into rolling around, says Anders Vadla. – What about the honeymoon, is it planned? – If we are to decide for ourselves, we will probably have to travel quite quickly, laughs Vadla. The bride and groom have a whole book of greetings and pictures from the wedding that they can enjoy. Photo: Jakub Krzysztof Spadlo / news Published 25.09.2024, at 15.18
