The now nine-year-old daughter gave detailed descriptions of her father’s actions during arranged questioning at the Norwegian Children’s Home. There she explained, among other things, about repeated cases of violence, such as punches, kicks, pinching, clawing and strangulation. The daughter also said that the father sat on top of her, so that she felt she could hardly breathe. Called the daughter stupid and useless According to the daughter, the father must also have called her stupid, useless and a bastard, says the judgment from the Telemark district court. There it also emerges that the child welfare service in the municipality where the girl lives submitted a report against the man just over a year ago. Lawyer Jonny Sveen was defending the now convicted man in his 40s. Photo: H. Philip Hofgaard / news The report came in the wake of messages of concern from the mother of the underage girl, as well as the school where she is a student and the girl’s GP. The information the child welfare service had received was that the girl was exposed to physical and psychological violence from her father. It was indicated in the report that it could appear that the violence had been going on for years, as the child protection service had been in contact with the family previously about the same problem and concern. – There have never been conflicts. The father has a completely different version of his time with his daughter, after he parted ways with the girl’s mother. In a police interview, the man said that his daughter means everything to him, that he has a good relationship with her and that the daughter is confident in him. According to the father, there have never been any conflicts when they have been together. He also claimed to have never used derogatory words towards his daughter. However, the father admitted to having an annoying tendency to raise his voice, and the daughter thus experienced him as angry, even though he has not been. Accused mother and grandmother The father also believes that it is the girl’s mother and grandmother who are behind the circumstances that led to him being prosecuted. He believes they influenced their daughter to explain themselves the way they wanted, because they allegedly have a desire to have her for themselves. The father of the child is far from a blank page in the police annals. The man has previously been convicted of rape, and around five years ago he was convicted of violence against the nine-year-old’s mother. Now he must serve ten months behind bars and pay a fine of NOK 10,000. In addition, the man must pay NOK 100,000 in compensation to the daughter. The sentence also includes a case of drunken driving. In December last year, the man was stopped with a blood alcohol level of 0.54 and must now manage without a driving license for 12 months. The man’s defender, lawyer Jonny Sveen, informs news that he has not yet discussed a possible appeal with his client. – We will talk later, says Sveen. Published 25/09/2024, at 07.04
