Young people wreak havoc on the roads in Alta: – They are playing with their lives – news Troms and Finnmark

Recently, several young people have had their vehicles impounded after dangerous driving in the center of Alta. Now the police have released a video that shows several dangerous situations on the roads in the city, including dangerous overtaking, a moped car on a footpath and one that kept a speed close to 80 km/h in a 50 zone. – They are undoubtedly playing with their lives, says Edwin Olaussen. Taxi driver Edwin Olaussen has experienced several scary and dangerous situations while at work. Photo: Kristina Brekke / news He is a shop steward and taxi driver in Alta Taxi, and has experienced unpleasant and dangerous situations several times while at work. – Personally, I have had overtakes on either side of the car, one in the ditch and one in the opposite lane. I’ve also had brake checks, meaning they brake in front of me to test my reflexes. Several of the taxi drivers have experienced the lawless culture up close. – Do you really dare to go to work today, and be afraid that you will collide with a savage on a light bike or moped, asks Olaussen. An unadorned picture Steinar Aas Andersen, section leader of the police patrol in Alta, says that the police were ambivalent about publishing the video of the young people’s rough driving. We know that some of them thrive on it. This means that they take further chances, precisely because they get publicity. At the same time, Andersen believes that it is important to show the audience what they are facing. He thinks the parents will hear a slightly different version of their children. The police filmed how this moped drove onto the pavement in Alta. – Then we thought it might be good to give an unvarnished picture of what we see on a weekend shift. Andersen encourages parents to get involved, and to know what the young people will be doing during the weekend. – We believe that those who are the worst in traffic, those who are responsible for the most daring and dangerous situations, there the volume is not so high. – Driving straight across Taxi driver Olaussen has a clear message for the young people who are going out on the road this weekend. – Several of us drive very heavy cars. We drive electric cars that weigh almost 3 tonnes, and if we hit a moped we drive straight over. In the worst case, a person’s life has been taken. Last weekend around 40 vehicles were destroyed in Alta. The drivers were young people as young as 16. On the night of Saturday, the police stopped a UTV driving the wrong way in a roundabout. The driver, in his late teens, was fined and the vehicle was temporarily banned from use due to the technical standard. The police are now prepared for what could be another weekend of dangerous driving. – I do not want to go into detail about the steps we have taken to strengthen preparedness. Having said that, we have taken steps, so we are not unprepared. Section leader for the police patrol in Alta, Steinar Aas Andersen, says that the police have been unsure whether to publish the video and thus give attention to the rough drivers.
