This is how Sissel Knutsen Hegdal opens the press release that was sent out today. – To help restore calm, and to give the elected officials time to focus on the very important task of governing the city, I will today submit an application for exemption from the post of mayor. It was announced on Wednesday last week that she would resign as mayor of Stavanger, due to misuse of party funds. – The decision I made on Wednesday 4 September to resign as mayor was to avoid an internal conflict in the Conservative Party affecting the important job for the good of the citizens. But only today will she submit a formal application for exemption from the office of mayor. – Very sorry – I am very sorry that I am now disappointing those who have cheered me on and all those with whom I have worked closely. She further writes that she will miss the good meetings with the city’s residents, the collaboration with the mayors in the region, and the day-to-day work at the town hall. – It is not with a light heart that I seek exemption from the most meaningful job I have had in my entire life.
