It is ten kilometers from where the watercraft was found. The man in his 30s, who reported that he had hit something, is being charged because the boat and his mobile phone were seized. The police are investigating whether there is a connection between the damage to the boat and the jet ski. – As of now, we know that the information we have cannot rule out that the vessels’ courses have crossed each other, and there has been a collision, but it is too early to draw conclusions about this, says police attorney Øyvind Bore. The mobile phones of both the accused man and the deceased are being analyzed to see if they have been in the same place at the same time. Øyvind Bore is a police prosecutor in the Sør-Vest police district. Photo: The police Defense attorney reacts to the charge On Wednesday, the police charged the man under section 281 of the Criminal Code for negligently causing someone’s death. – We believe there is reasonable cause for suspicion. We have no indications that there have been other clashes in the area, says Bore. The man’s lawyer reacts to the charge. – The charge assumes that he has run over the two boys before the facts have been clarified. The police should consider another factual and legal basis for the charge. The man pleads not guilty. The boys took part in a rescue operation just hours before they themselves lost their lives on the night of Sunday. Photo: Privat Rønningen believes there are three possibilities for what has happened, seen from his client’s side. – He may have hit something that we don’t know what it is. He may have been riding the jet ski and he may have been riding the jet ski with the two boys on it. – He fears that he has hit them. It is very heavy for both him and those left behind, says Rønningen. The Accident Investigation Board came to Stavanger on Tuesday to carry out investigations. Published 05.09.2024, at 10.22
