– The development I have seen in the schools has amazed me. It has gone under my radar, says Abid Raja (V) to news. In the book “Our honor and our fear”, he directs the spotlight on integration problems among Muslims in Norway and Europe. In an article in Aftenposten, Raja wrote that today’s 50 million Muslims in Europe are expected to double in the next 25 years. Among other things, Raja has visited high schools with a high minority background. He writes that many have never been in a Norwegian home, and that they lack people who can challenge the conservative attitudes they grow up with. “Imagine being a teacher in a school where the pressure of religious conformity dominates everyday life, where students pray at school, where girls feel socially pressured to cover up, and where the jargon is homophobic,” he writes. Raja wonders if tolerance is the right medicine. – I really believe that we cannot meet intolerance with tolerance. It must be met with strong measures, he explains to news. – My concern is that those who were born and raised in Norway, that we will not be able to include them in Norwegian society. Pointing to Denmark Among other things, Raja han a blow for mixed marriages. He believes that bringing in spouses from the parents’ country of origin slows down progress in integration. – If ethnic minorities stay together with ethnic Norwegians, it will be an advantage for integration. Raja also believes that Norway should consider introducing similar measures as Denmark, which in certain areas has chosen not to take in more groups with social challenges. – We must spread the population so that we do not get an area where only the socially needy live. Listhaug: – Proposed this for a long time Sylvi Listhaug (Frp) and Raja have long disagreed deeply about Norwegian immigration policy. She has previously written on Facebook that Raja’s turnaround is not “worth anything” unless his own party helps to tighten up. – If he gets his party involved in this, it would be a revolution. The left has always been at the forefront of the most liberal politics possible, she says to news. Photo: Amanda Iversen Orlich / news She says the Progress Party has for a long time proposed that immigrants who are not integrated and self-sufficient should be able to move to municipalities with 15 percent immigrants. – We believe that those who are resettled as refugees should not be able to move to parts of Norway where we see a high level of immigration from before. It is precisely to stop this accumulation. Listhaug also believes that family reunification is an important reason why certain areas have a high proportion of residents with an immigrant background. – Then we also have to tighten up the rules for family reunification, which FRP has repeatedly proposed.
