Frenchman Clement Ducos slipped between Warholm and dos Santos. Going for gold Warholm has been crystal clear from the start: the goal in Paris is to defend the Olympic gold in the 400 metres. However, the charging of the toys has not been quite optimal. He has run fast, but others have run faster. In the last four Diamond League events, Warholm has had to see himself beaten, and during the summer both Rai Benjamin and dos Santos have relegated the Norwegian hope to 2nd place. Photo: AFP Used more effort than desired Warholm advanced to the semi-finals from the preliminary heat earlier in the week, but the Norwegian was honest that an unnecessary amount of effort was used. The 28-year-old was teased by French home hope Clement Ducos up the run-up, but refused to let the Frenchman win. The winner’s skull was triggered, and Warholm won in 47.57 – the fastest time ever over the distance in an Olympic preliminary round. It would also have been enough for Olympic gold in both 2016 and 2012. – I just had to laugh a little. It is unfortunate to come with a Frenchman in the heat.
