6 August 2024 at 08:12 The Tokyo Stock Exchange closed on Tuesday with an increase of 10.2 per cent. Thus, the Tokyo Stock Exchange has made up for much of Monday’s enormous fall. Then the Nikkei index plunged 12.4 per cent, the biggest decline in the index’s history. The decline on Monday also led to stock market falls in Europe and the US. The Oslo Stock Exchange ended down 3.4 per cent, while the FTSE index in London fell just over 2 per cent, the DAX index in Frankfurt 1.8 per cent and the CAC index in Paris 1.4 per cent. In the US, the technology-heavy Nasdaq fell 3.4 percent, the Dow Jones index 2.6 percent and the broadly composed S & P 500 index fell 3 percent. Fear of recession is highlighted as the reason for Monday’s international stock market decline. (NTB)
