Ruud was a big favorite as the world’s 9th best ranked player, while Vavassori was only in 206th place. Towards the end of the second set, an absurd situation arose, which could have helped decide the match in Ruud’s favour. Ruud was about to score a decisive point, but then he was stopped by a ball that fell out of Vavassori’s pocket.
