The Olympic jersey of Casper Ruud is slaughtered by a fashion expert for its “Danish” appearance in the match against Taro Daniel – Olympics Paris 2024

What’s the deal with Casper Ruud’s Olympic shirt? That was the question many asked on social media during the Norwegian’s first Olympic match against Japanese Taro Daniel. A match where Ruud struggled in the first set to get a comfortable lead over the Japanese, who was considered the underdog in the match. Several viewers took to the X platform to express their displeasure with the jersey. In the second set, the Norwegian was far more confident, and ultimately won as expected. He also came up with a fantastic shot between the legs in the second set, which you can see further down in the case. But it wasn’t just the sports viewers reacted to. Because Ruud’s shirt, in red and with a white cross on it, can be confusingly reminiscent of the Danish flag more than the Norwegian one. At least if we are to believe fashion expert Marianne Jemtegård. Not much blue to see on the back of the jersey either. At least the shoes are blue! Photo: NTB Some people think the front of the shirt makes it look like Ruud represents Denmark. Photo: AFP The shorts also have details with the cross on them – but they are in black, not blue. Photo: NTB – Skivebom – The jersey is undeniably very similar to the Danish flag, says Jemtegård to news. – He has thought very little about what signals he sends out when he put it on today. She continues: – It’s a complete disc boom. These are colors that give strong associations to another country when you see Norway’s golden boy play. Jemtegård believes this is a clear example of clothes being communication. – I think this is as close to a complete disc bomb as you can get in the context of the Olympics. – It’s not often we see that, and I’m happy about that. You just get confused. There will be no podium place in that “outfit” there. What do you think of Ruud’s shirt? It could probably look a little more “Norwegian”, yes. Nice, right? I don’t see the problem. Show result Ruud stands behind the criticism Ruud himself seems to agree, at least on some points, with Jemtegård. He tells news that he would like to have a more “Norwegian” jersey. – I would have liked to see a little more blue in it myself. – It is not me who designed it, and I just put up with what I get. But yes, I missed blue. A happy Casper Ruud (with solid headband separation) at a press conference in Paris a couple of days ago. Did he perhaps compensate for the lack of blue on the jersey with this blue hoodie? Photo: NTB – Now I have a bit of blue on my shoes, and a Norwegian flag there. But it is very little. So yes, I will give feedback that we can get something blue. I can’t promise anything, but I missed something blue. Brilliant with tricks In the second set, Ruud was far more confident and comfortable, and there was little doubt as to who was likely to emerge victorious from the match. Towards the end of the second set, Ruud also came up with what must be described as the fiercest single stroke in tennis so far in the Olympics.
