Three people have been evacuated after a landslide in Jotunheimen. The landslide happened this afternoon, in the mountains between the two tourist cabins Memurubu and Gjendesheim in Vågå municipality in Jotunheimen. – The evacuees have not been in contact with anything that has collapsed, says the police operations manager to news. There were some hikers in the area who reported the landslide. A rescue operation was then launched. Crews from the police, the fire service and the Red Cross are on the scene. Work is now underway to map the slide. The police state that the breeds that have been located have gone into stream valleys. It is earth and rock that have collapsed. They have not observed any major landslides as of now. – There has probably also been stonewalling, reports the police. – Now we are trying to observe if there are more in the area. And we are trying to get control of the area where there has been a landslide, and whether there are possibly more places, says the operations manager. – How serious is the situation? – It is serious when rocks have fallen in an area with people. But it may appear that the collapse is less contained than first thought, the police say to news. The road is closed The hiking trail by the landslide area runs along the water, just below Besseggen. The police have put up signs on the path between Memrubu and Gjendesheim stating that it is closed. The municipality has been notified and asked to make assessments in the area. At 17:12, the police report that there have still been no sightings of people in the area who have not been evacuated. They further write that three people have been evacuated and that three others have left the area themselves. On Friday afternoon, heavy rainfall is reported in the area. – It has been raining steadily in the area since this morning, but the weather should be lighter during the evening, says state meteorologist Terje Alsvik Walløe Crews from the police, fire service and Red Cross are on the scene.
